This DDR2 offering from Buffalo does little to excite. It is very much entry level, rating at 533MHz and with above JEDEC standard 4-4-4-12 timings.

We like the clean and simple approach Buffalo have taken by deciding not to dress the memory in fancy heat spreaders. As part of the DDR-II standard, the voltage requirement is now a lot lower and the internal frequency is a lot lower, at 133MHz (instead of 200MHz for DDR400). Because of this, power consumption and heat generated is a lot lower than previous generation DDR.

This may also be a reason why we were able to achieve 600MHz without any problems at all. Unlike the Corsair, it could only do this at CAS 4, so we don't see it overclocking much above 650MHz.

At £260, this is not far off the price of the Corsair memory. If it were our money, we'd spend the extra £20 as future protection, especially with the 1066MHz front side bus Pentium 4 processors out now.

But, once again, you have to ask yourself if you wouldn't be better off with a set of DDR400 memory on a 915P board, at well under half the price. In saying this, if you look around there are sets of DDR-II as low at £170. This elevated price may be due to us quoting the RRP, as no one is yet stocking this memory.
