The EluminX keyboard is manufactured by a company called Auravision.
The original idea was (according to their web-site) "first used in ruggedized
laptops developed for military use, where computing efficiently at night time
or in low-lit environments is crucial for survival."
Now, they have used the technology in a range of keyboards. I'm not sure how
many of us find ourselves in situations wehre typing is crucial for our survival,
but they claim it helps with the following:
• Eliminate the glare from task lighting
• Ease eyestrain
• Make the keys easy to see
Let me first start by saying that almost every single person that has come
round to my house has instantly commented on how cool the keyboard is, before
they even notice the fact it glows in the dark. And for good reason, this is
a truly stylish keyboard. It's silver casing looks so different compared to
an "ordinary" keyboard. If you are worried about how it will fit in
with your machine's colour scheme, EluminX make it in several colours, so go
here for the
full range.
The illumination is excellent, as you will see in the photos below. In normal
daylight, the glow can be just about seen, while in the dark it glows a little
like those indiglo watches. But, I had to ask myself if it was really necessary.
Being a touch typist anyway (as most of us are) we very rarely need to look
at the keyboard. When we do, there is usually enough of a glow from our monitors
to find our place.. The glow to me seems for aesthetic reasons more than anything
else. And why not? It looks great!

This is taken in daylight with a flash to show what it's like when it's not
glowing.

This is a longer exposure shot to show what it looks like in darkness.

A different angle...
