It was during my stay in america that this machine was born and it started
on a summery day while in the abode of one Daniel Edgar (www.aoaforums.com).
We were taking a trip to a shop called re-pc
which we had been recommended for the strange stuff that people like us like
to buy :)
 |
You can just about make out Dr. Surlyjoe standing next to
the RE-PC VW Camper. Oh, and this is the entrance to their warehouse of
fun! |
In hind-sight, I should have taken some photos of the inside, as it was quite
a sight - a great place for picking up rariities. (like an AMD K6-166 Enginerring
Sample cpu for $1 - makes a good key ring!)
One such rarity I discovered was an old "optical drive" which just
so happened to be just wide enough and easily long enough to take a Via Eden
motherboard. Not ONLY that, but the drive that was in there (which pre-dated
cd-rom's at 300mb capacity) took up two 5 1/4" bays! So if I removed the
actual computer device I would have the perfect fit for my DVD drive and plenty
of room for my Eden! So I purchased it for $5. If it didn't work out, well -
it's $5!
| Something else I ALSO forgot to take a photo of, was the case before
hand - luckily robbie from aoaforums
was taking photos also and you can see it here already in pieces. You can
see how large the computer device is on the right.

So I cracked it open and removed the old 5 1/4" computer and as you
can see here, a CD-ROM drive fits perfectly - screw holes an' all! |
